Software Development: E-Business Verification Application
AgriVera (CMi)
Brief
Design a web-based e-business application for verification of agricultural produce worldwide.
Business Case
Demand for verification in agricultural products is fast increasing. But there are practical drawbacks to these audits. Producer farms for any particular market may be scattered worldwide, making control and communication in any verification process complex and costly. The opportunity exists for a lower cost, paperless e-business solution where inspection criteria are standardised, inspection reports are downloaded immediately via the internet and data processing is automated.
Implementation
This groundbreaking application allows farm auditors to log inspection reports in a rationalised format through a standard screen interface. They file their reports via the internet directly to a centralised database.Information is automatically collated, processed and formatted, and authorised users can log in from any location to access their output reports.
The application is written in Oracle Developer (Forms 5) and backs onto an Oracle database.Oracle Developer Server is deployed over the web, running under a browser using a Java Virtual Machine.
Benefits
- low overheads result from automation of information supply, processing and distribution
- minimal management intervention is required
- remote geographical distribution of farms is no longer a cost issue
- the whole supply chain is rendered transparent
- the system is extremely responsive - it operates in real time designed-in scalability allows country-by-country roll-out
- flexible outputs can be tailored to needs of any category of client - farmer, food manufacturer, retailer or government
- compliance with standards becomes a process of continuous improvement through audit
